November 1, 2016 | Permalink

Corny Spag and cheese: (for your left over days but still want something good to eat)

Ingredients:
One portion of spaghetti (per person)
half a cup of dehydrated corn (per peron)
100 g of dehydrated cheese (cheddar)
Water

Note:

Step 1: Boil water in a dish,

Step 2: While the water get to boiling point, hydrate the cheese and the corn,

Step 3: Once the water is boiling add the spaghetti and cook until it is to your taste,

Step 4: Once the spaghetti are to your taste remove the excess of water,

Step 5: Add the hydrated cheese and corn in the spaghetti cooking pan, and then the cooked spaghetti,

Step 6: Mix everything well and let the cheese melt and spread around the whole batch,

Step 7: (optional) Add some Parmesan and black pepper, or crystallize lemon.

This meal was made because we had left over unflavored spaghetti from yesterday. With what we thought could be a good fit with what ever we had left. We all loved it and finished all the left over. Some even took desert.

As always please try this at home. Very little supervision is require, and to eat. Please enjoy.

Test Four: Science Drawing of Hypolith Samples in the Laboratory (Work in Progress)

fig1fig2

In the lab, I drew a sample of lithobionts found under quartz pebbles in an undisturbed remnant area of gravel terrace area, south-east of the hab.

These rounded pebbles have been identified as quartz and chert, mostly by geologist Jon Clarke from the Permian succession near Capitol Reef.

I used the microscope to examine whether the colonies are growing on the surface of the underside of the rock (hypoliths), within the rock, (endoliths) or within the cracks of the rock (chasmoliths). Then I carefully drew the outline of the underside of each rock to scale, noting orientation to the north and marked in the percentage of  lithobiont growth to get a sense of the data that is hard to quantify numerically.

In terms of science drawing, I wanted to draw all sample drawings on the one page. Next, I will examine my simple line drawings in relation to a photograph of each sample rock taken by our crew biologist Anushree, to try to analyze what can be discovered about differing kinds of images and techniques of documentation.

"Last night we watched the movie KONTIKI the story of explorer Thor Heyerdahl and his crew who drifted from Lima to an atoll in Polynesia. The similarities for our crew in terms of isolation and endeavour were fascinating. That's the inspiration for our phrase of the day JON-TIKI." -Annalea

Mission status: Operations are nominal

Sol activity Summary: After very busy week, the crew had day off and spent it with different activities. As always an hour of yoga and other types of exercise. Cooking together the cake and Russian dish “Pelmeni” took several hours. Some crew mates listened to the music, read the books, writing letters to family. This beautiful day planned to be ended with great movie “Interstellar”.
